National Financial Conditions Index (NFCI)
A Chicago Fed index summarizing 105 measures of financial activity into a single financial-conditions gauge.
Definition
The NFCI is constructed to have a mean of zero and a standard deviation of one. Positive values indicate tighter-than-average financial conditions. Sustained NFCI readings above 0.5 have historically preceded recessions.
