Cass Freight Index
A monthly index of North American freight shipments and expenditures based on billions of dollars of actual invoices.
Definition
The Cass Shipments index historically leads ISM PMI by 2-3 months. Year-over-year declines of 5% or more have coincided with industrial slowdowns and often preceded broader recessions.
